Streetmeet 30

Hi Leonor how did you come to Tübingen
My family had to leave Chile to escape the
Pinochet regime and go into exile to Belgium
In 1975 we arrived in Tübingen where I spent
most of my childhood years in Germany
After the exile I finished school and studied
sociology in Chile university before I came
back to Germany in 2020

What does exile mean for you
For me exile means an abstract situation and
is like an opposite state of consciousness
A very absurd feeling without space and time
Also the return from exile back to Chile was
a very difficult situation as the social codes
among teenagers are very different

What about the collar
Its from my grandma who was a real beauty
We had a lot of fun together and always had
a connection that never was tied to a place
She cared for me and always loved me for
who I was without judging me

Your past
I had to discover my past by embracing and
comforting my childhood and not keeping
the feelings of my forced migration inside
This was a process of self-healing and as part
of this process I wrote a book to give a voice
to the Chilean girl in exile that is a part of me

Your science
Social research and cultural studies
Gender sociology and sociology of health
and education I taught and researched about
specific social phenomena within a certain
group of society to understand peoples
actions and the intentions of their social
behavior towards each others

Yourself
I experienced extreme situations in my life
It takes a lot of courage to be yourself
The decision to start looking for yourself is
also a testing of boundaries and at the same
time somehow an escape from yourself until
you finally get back to yourself
